LEXINGTON, Ky.— The Colorado Mesa University indoor and beach volleyball teams have both been named as recipients of American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Awards, the organization announced on Thursday.

The Mavs' indoor team also received additional distinction of AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll for having a team GPA in the top 20 percent of GPA's for NCAA Division II.  They also received that additional plaudit in 2025.

The indoor squad, under the direction of head coach Austin Albers, has now been recognized by the AVCA in 15 straight years and 18 times overall.  The Mavs finished with a 17-11 and qualified for their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament.

The Maverick beach squad, whose head coach is David Skaff, received an eighth straight and ninth overall AVCA Academic Award.  His squad went 19-9 overall, including an 8-1 record against fellow NCAA Division II opponents and won the Silver Bracket title at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships.

A total of 1,432 programs from all levels of collegiate and high school volleyball were honored by maintaining a year-long grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. 

"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."

The awards were initiated in the 1992-93 academic year.
