FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.— Colorado Mesa University newcomer
Ryan Campbell won the 1-meter springboard in Day 1 action of the Lumberjack Diving Invitational on Thursday here at Northern Arizona University's Wall Aquatic Center.
He tallied 554.65 points combined in the 6-dive preliminary and final rounds to win by 14.80 points over Cal Poly's Justin Dolezal and the rest of the 9-man field, including seven Mavericks.
Meanwhile, the Maverick women had three finalists in the women's 3-meter competition as
Talia Datilio took 11
th with 488.20 points.
Kenya Meyer, who placed 13
th with 483.95 points and
Jenna Hurley, who was 15
th with 469.45 points were also amongst the 18 finalists from the original 35-woman field.
Campbell, a 2024 national junior college champion from Monroe (N.Y.) Community College, led the men's event with 259.90 points after the preliminary round and then scored 294.75 points in the finals to increase his lead while setting yet another NCAA Division II Pre-Championship qualification score although he was already assured of the trip coming into the day.
Ty Mitton was the second Maverick finisher, scoring 501.55 points over his 12 dives to place fourth while
Jax Juarros rounded out the top five with a score of 498.10 points.
Wyatt Hermanson (497.70),
David Roethlisberger (461.45),
Carter Lackner (439.00) and
Aiden Coon (417.80) also competed for the Mavs.
On the women's side,
Juli Holt (209.10),
Tori Nguyen (192.25) and
Emma Lence (185.45) joined the three aforementioned Mavericks and took 21
st, 28
th and 30
th, respectively while being unable to reach the finals.
The meet will continue through Saturday.
