Coming off of a hard-fought loss to CU Boulder, knowing regardless of the outcome your season is over, is always tough. However, the Mavericks were determined to put their skills on show and finish off the season on a positive note. The team traveled to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the University of Wyoming this past Saturday. Wyoming is historically known for having a hefty squad and the CMU team would not be traveling any of their starting props. The task was going to be daunting, but the Mavs were up for the challenge.
 
The team knew they had to make it through the first 15 minutes, win the possession back, and then out run Wyoming the rest of the match. Having to kick to the home team first, made that game plan tough. The Mavs weathered the hard-earned Cowgirl yards and saw themselves on the losing end of a 5-0 start as the Cowgirls scored seven minutes into the matchup. But survive they would and at the 17-minute mark, Chloe Coop began her try scoring for the day on a big run to the outside that ended in a dangerous tackle and a penalty try for seven points. 
 
Ellen Rickerd was next with a shifty run weaving through the middle of the pitch, making the score 12-5. Then the floodgates opened. The speed of CMU and Fiji like offloads to players running onto the ball at pace, was too much for Wyoming to handle. Every two minutes from minute 29 to 40 CMU touched down for a try. Coop earned try #2, then Ashley Bollinger got in on the action scoring two of her own back-to-back on big break away runs. Co-Captain Carly Scheck weaved through an opening and Kenya Contreras burst through the middle of the pitch with a massive run of her own to end the half. CMU rolled into halftime with a 47-5 lead. 
 
Coming out of half it was the speedster Coop again with a try off of the second half kickoff. Then co-captain Zelly Moore began scoring with back-to-back trys of her own before the senior stepped off the pitch for the final time. Finally, freshmen fullback Kennedy Thimsen would get her first score of the season with an explosive counterattack through the middle of the pitch for a hard earned try. With some amazing conversion kicks on the day (8 of 10 success rate) Ellen Rickerd finished out the day with a kick through the uprights. Every Mav that traveled saw minutes. Nine of the fifteen starters were 15s rookies. Two ruggers, Kaedee McAllister and Paige Southern, made their CMU season debut starting at prop and lock. 
 
The Mavs won big in the season finale 73-12 from Laramie. This will conclude the CMU Fall season with the Mavs going 4-1 and finishing #2 in the High Peaks DI league. The ladies will miss the playoffs for the first time in 4 years. However, they turn their sights to the spring. With the highlight of the fall being CMUs speed and offloads, the spring season that centers around speed and offloads looks appealing! The team has a bright future with 15 of the 25 members being fall 15s rookies. Preparation will begin for spring 7s, with their speed and heart, the team has a solid chance at winning another National Championship in 2025.
