Mavs to host pair of home matches

Grand Junction, Colo. - The #22 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team are riding a hot hand right now as they are on a seven-game win streak and are perfect within RMAC play. They will look to continue this winning streak this weekend as they host a pair of home games this upcoming Thursday and Sunday against UCCS and CSU Pueblo.

Sunday's game against CSU Pueblo will be the Mavs' Senior Day and honor the team's eight seniors who are graduating.

The eight players being recognized are Mira Houck, Abby Fotheringham, Allison Collinwood, Carli Dare, Sauvelyne Randel, Mackenzie Armstrong, Shelby Steele and Adessa Correa

Through 12 games this season, the Mavs currently sit at 9-1-2 and are 7-0 in the RMAC to be tied for first place in the conference standings. The only other team that's undefeated in the conference is #1 Colorado School of Mines who has a 13-0-1 record and are 7-0-1 in the RMAC.

The Mavs' seven-game winning streak is currently the best in the RMAC and can accredited to their explosive offense that has outscored opponents 26-9 this season. In RMAC play alone they have totaled 19 goals while only giving up two.

As a whole they average 2.17 goals per game while limiting opponents to just .75. Their 2.17 goals per game is marked as second best in the conference.

While eight different players have scored goals this season, there have been five players who have scored three or more goals themselves to boost this offense. The current goal scoring leader on the team belongs to Sauvelyne Randel, as she has seven goals this year and in her last four matches has totaled five of them.

Abby Fotheringham has also been a large factor on the team this season as she racked up five goals herself. Four of her goals are game winners which is ranked to be second best in the conference and eight nationally. She is followed closely behind by Adessa Correa and Kylie Wells who have both scored four goals apiece. Sarah Dunn has three goals to be the only other member of the team with more than one.

In addition to the Mavs' 26 goals there have also been 23 assists to accompany them. Randel serves as the team leader in assists as well as goals as she has five this year. Carli Dare has four to be in second place on the team. Fotheringham and Dunn have also each notched three assists apiece.

In the net, goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek has started every game this season for the Mavs and in doing so has been stellar. She has been awarded the RMAC Goalkeeper of the week award twice and has held opponents to only nine goals on 81 shots faced. She has amassed 30 saves this season and currently sits top 10 in every major goalkeeping category in the RMAC.

The defense and her work have accumulated six shutouts this year with five of them coming in conference play. Wieczorek alone has 16 shutouts in her career.

With all this recent success the Mavs are still ranked #22 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll for week seven of the season. This is the fourth week of the year that the Mavs have been ranked after entering the season at #10 in the preseason polls. In the South Central Region Poll they remain in third place.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
The Mavs take on a couple of schools from along I-25 this week as they are getting to host two home games in one week for just the second time this season.

CMU will play UCCS on Thursday at 4 p.m. before playing at 12 p.m. on Sunday against CSU Pueblo.

Thursday's game against UCCS will be the first of the week and is the first time that CMU and UCCS will meet since their postseason duel last year that ended the Mavs' historic 2023 run.

The Mountain Lions will enter Thursday's game with a 5-6-2 record and are 3-4 in the RMAC. They are currently on a three-game winning streak with their most recent victory being a 1-0 decision over Regis University.

They have scored 19 goals as an offense and are led by the duo of Emily Aguilar and Luka Johnson as they have combined for seven of those goals. Aguilar has four goals to lead the team.

CSU Pueblo will close out the Mavs' weekend as they come to Grand Junction on Sunday after facing off with Westminster University on Friday.

Through 13 games this year the Thunderwolves hold a 3-7-3 record while sitting at 2-4-1 in the RMAC. They have been outscored 12-22 and average just .92 goals per game.

Sydney Lasater is the Pack's leader in goals scored with four and is followed by Abby Menk who has two.

CSUP is currently in head coach John Constable's first season with the team after joining back in April.

Sunday's match against CSUP will be the team's senior day and include a pregame ceremony to recognize each senior in the program.

Both games this week will be streamed on the RMAC Network with live stats available to follow. Tickets can be purchased online at cmumavericks.com/tickets.
