Grand Junction, Colo. - Following yet another 2-0 mark in Denver this past weekend, the #22 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team will find themselves in action again this upcoming weekend as they look to improve on their five-game win streak and undefeated start to conference play with two matches against RMAC opponents.
CMU will take on schools Fort Lewis College and Western Colorado University this upcoming Friday and Sunday. CMU and Fort Lewis will meet here at Community Hospital Unity Field at 7 p.m. on Friday following the Men's Soccer game before heading to Gunnison on Sunday to play the Mountaineers at 3 p.m. on Katy O. Rady Field.
Friday night's theme for the game will be Alumni Appreciation and look to recognize past players who have worn the maroon and gold in this program's history.
The Mavs, who have won five straight to start conference play, are currently rocking a 7-1-2 record and are 5-0 in the RMAC. They are one of the only two undefeated teams in the conference with Colorado School of Mines being the only other at 11-0-1 and 5-0-1 in RMAC play.
Colorado Mesa holds the highest win streak in conference right now with five. Their 15 conference points are tied for second with MSU Denver and are just one point behind Mines who has 16.
This season the Mavs have outscored opponents 20-8 and in their last five games have scored 13 goals while only giving up one. Before their latest 2-1 victory over MSU Denver they had recorded four straight shutouts.
Seven different players have scored goals this season with five of them having three or more goals. Kylie Wells, Adessa Correa and Sarah Dunn all have three goals apiece. Abby Fotheringham has four goals with Sauvelyne Randel having the team-leading five goals. Randel has scored three goals in the last two matches.
The Mavs' assist leader is Carli Dare who has four this year. Randel follows closely behind with three assists herself.
As a whole, the team averages 2.00 goals per game and averages 17.40 shots per game with 8.50 of those on goal.
Defensively they only allow .80 goals per game which is marked for fourth best in the conference. Goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek has totaled 23 saves on 64 shots faced in their 10 games this season.
In addition, both Randel and Wieczorek were awarded this week's RMAC players of the week for offensive player of the week and goalkeeper of the week. Three different Mavs have earned RMAC player of the week honors this season, with Wieczorek being the only player to have earned it mulitple times.
In this weekend's Alumni Appreciation game, the Mavs will face off with the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College for their first of the two matches. FLC will enter Friday's match with a 6-3-1 record and are 3-2 in the RMAC.
The Skyhawks, similarly to the Mavs, have offensively performed well this season as they have outscored opponents 21-13 and in conference have scored 10 goals through five matches.
Abila Tapia is their leading scorer with four goals herself, but 12 other players have also knocked in at least one goal this season. Additionally, 16 different players have totaled points.
Their goalkeeping crew has amassed 40 combined saves and boasts a .755 save percentage while facing 113 shots.
Closing out the Mavs' weekend matches, they will head to Gunnison on Sunday to play the Mountaineers of Western Colorado.
Western Colorado is currently 3-5-3 and are 2-1-2 in the RMAC. In their most recent match, they would suffer a 3-0 loss to #1 Colorado School of Mines.
They have given up 22 goals this season while only scoring 11 in return. Their leader in goals is Cianna Thomas with three and Ellie Kubena has the second most on the team with two.
Despite giving up 22 goals so far this season, the Mountaineers have recorded 87 saves by their goalkeeping crew which is the highest save total by any team in the conference. They average 7.91 saves per game and have faced 246 shots thus far.
