COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team swept the Week No. 5 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, it was announced on Monday afternoon by conference officials.
Sierra Hunt was named as the RMAC's Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career while
Allison Waller earned the defensive honor for the second time this season and the 17th of her career. She had previously been recognized on Sept. 23 in Week No.3. Meanwhile,
Sabrina VanDeList picked up her third RMAC Setter of the Week award of 2024 and the 15
th of her career. She had also earned the plaudits on Sept. 16 and Sept. 23.
Hunt, a redshirt junior right side hitter from Aurora, Colorado, led all RMAC players with 44 kills last week, recording a career-high 24 on impressive .500 hitting in CMU's 5-set win over CSU Pueblo on Friday night as the Mavericks knocked the ThunderWolves out of a first place tie in the RMAC standings. Hunt then tallied 20 more in Saturday's win over Adams State and finished the weekend averaging 4.89 kills per set on .398 hitting.
Meanwhile, Waller registered a season-high 26 digs in Friday's win over CSU Pueblo and added another match-high 19 in Saturday's win over the Grizzlies. The junior libero out of Loveland, Colorado totaled 45 digs, an average of 5.00 per set.
VanDeList, a redshirt senior from Severance, Colorado, had her most productive weekend of the season, recording 112 assists, 29 digs and a pair of double-doubles, her third and fourth consecutive. She set season-highs for both assists (60) and digs (16) in Friday's win as she led the Mavericks to a .325 team attack percentage against the ThunderWolves.
VanDeList then tallied 52 more assists and 13 digs in Saturday's win over Adams State. She also recorded a season-high five kills against the Grizzlies.
The Mavericks are now 13-3 overall and have won five straight matches overall. They are 5-1 in RMAC play and are in a tie for second place in the RMAC standings with Regis. Both teams trail national poll No. 2 MSU Denver (5-0 RMAC) by just a half-match in the conference standings.
Despite their wins, the Mavs dropped one spot to 17
th in this week's AVCA/TARAFLEX NCAA Division II Poll, which was also released on Monday afternoon.
The Mavs will play three road matches in a span of five days, beginning Friday evening (6 p.m.) in Colorado Springs at UCCS. They then take on Regis in Denver on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock before wrapping up the trip next Tuesday (Oct. 22) at 6 p.m. at Chadron State.
