Grand Junction, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Women' Soccer Team will look to continue their strong start to conference play this next week as they now head over to Denver to face off with opponents Colorado Christian University and Metropolitan State University Denver.
The Mavs will meet the Cougars of CCU on Friday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at Trailblazer Stadium before taking on the MSU Denver Roadrunners at 1:30 pm on Oct. 13 at Assembly Athletic Complex.
Through eight matches this season the Mavs have accumulated a 5-1-2 record while starting conference play 3-0. They are currently on a three-game winning streak and have outscored opponents 10-2 in their last five matches. In the conference standings they are tied for third place with Fort Lewis College and sit just behind Colorado School of Mines in second and MSU Denver in first.
This boost in offensive production has been bolstered by Abby Fotheringham as she has scored three goals in the last three games for the Mavs and currently serves as the team leader in goals with four. Sarah Dunn and Adessa Correa both follow close behind with three goals each.
Carli Dare is the team leader in assists with four and has totaled all four of them in the last three games.
The Mavs 2.00 goals per game average is currently the fourth best mark in the conference. In contrast they only allow .88 goals per game.
Goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek has only allowed seven goals this season and has recorded 14 saves to help the team secure four shutouts. She has recorded three straight shutouts in the Mavs last three matches. Colorado Mesa's four shutouts are the fourth most recorded in the conference.
In the most recent United Soccer Coaches National Poll the CMU Women's Soccer Team are receiving votes and in the regional poll have moved up to fourth place after being in fifth last week.
In the Mavs' first match this weekend will take place against CCU and will be the first time the Cougars have been at home since Sept. 27. CCU currently boasts a 3-5-1 record and are 2-2 in conference play to this point.
They have been outscored 4-6 in conference and in total have scored 10 goals to their opponent's 11. Eight different players have scored goals for the Cougars, but only one player has scored more than one goal for the team with Justine Moreau having scored three.
The Cougars' goalkeeping crew only allows 1.22 goals per game and in total has recorded 30 saves.
MSU Denver will be the Mavs' final opponent on the weekend and are currently the first-place team in conference standings. They boast a 5-1-4 record and are 4-0 to start conference play.
The Roadrunners started their year with three consecutive 0-0 ties before collecting their first win.
They have outscored opponents 10-4 through 10 games with Tessa Killmon and Sami Spring each having scored two goals apiece to lead the team.
Their goalkeeper, Kylie Bach, has amassed 39 saves this season and only allows .40 goals per game while holding a .907 save percentage. She has totaled eight shutouts this season to lead the conference.
