COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University softball squad received two first place votes and was picked third overall in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Preseason Poll, which was released by the conference on Wednesday.
The Mavericks received 107 overall points in the poll of the league's 12 head coaches, who each ranked their opposition 1-11 without voting for their own squad.
Defending regular season and tournament champion Colorado Christian topped the poll with 117 points and eight first place votes. MSU Denver edged the Mavs by one point, racking up 108 while receiving the other two first place votes.
Regis (92), Colorado School of Mines (80) and UCCS (61) rounded out the top half of the poll, which can be seen its entirety below.
The Mavericks are coming off a 32-23 season in 2023, which saw them qualify for the championship game of the RMAC Tournament after the Mavs entered the tournament as the fourth seed. CMU went 26-15 in RMAC play last year.
The Mavs will begin their season next week (Feb. 2-4) at the DII First Pitch Invitational in Conroe, Texas. They then begin a 44-game RMAC slate on Feb. 17 at Fort Lewis.
