SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — Led by Myranda Kotlowski's second-round 75, the Colorado Mesa women's golf team moved up one spot to third Monday at the 54 for IX tournament at Glenmoor Golf Club.
Kotlowski, who played the back nine first, was 2-over par at the turn, with three bogeys and one birdie on the par-3 13th hole, her fourth hole of the round. She started her second round with a bogey on the 520-yard, par-5 first hole. Kotlowski parred the rest of the way in to finish at 3-over 75, moving up four spots from Sunday's round and into a tie for ninth place with a two-round score of 155. She trails Biola University's Brady Turnquist, the tournament leader at 146, entering today's final round.
As a team, the Mavericks climbed one spot into third place with a round of 306, good for a two-round score of 627, six strokes back of Sonoma State and only one behind fellow RMAC member Colorado Christian. All five CMU players are in the top 20 of the 11-team tournament.
The Cougars got a boost from Raya Schulz, who aced No. 16, a 140-yard par-3, helping her shoot a 75 and move into a tie for fourth place.
The Mavs' Brittlynn O'Dell shot a second-round 80 and is tied for 16th at 158, and Cassidy Phelan, Sadie Kelley and Crystle Querol all tied for 18th at 159. Kelley shot a 76, Querol a 77 and Phelan a 78 on Monday.
The Mavericks lead the tournament in par-3 scoring at 3.23 strokes, and par-4 scoring at 4.47. They've carded 14 birdies, tied for second-most in the tournament. Kotlowski is second in par-3 scoring at even par along with O'Dell.
The final round begins at 8:30 Tuesday morning, with the Mavericks paired with Sonoma State and Colorado Christian in the shotgun start.
