SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team competed in the first of three rounds of the 54 for IX Tournament at Glenmoor Golf Course on Sunday (Sept. 24) afternoon. The tournament features 11 schools from around the region and includes a total of 60 golfers.
Colorado Mesa currently sits in fourth place after the first round and is contention for the top spot as they trail first-place Sonoma State by just five strokes. The Mavericks shot 33-over, 321 in the round and are just one stroke ahead of their playing partners for the day in Colorado Christian and Cameron.
Something you don't see very often is the top ten being separated by a total of 10 strokes. The Seawolves lead with a 316 while South Dakota Mines is in 10
th place at 326.
Brittlynn O'Dell led the Mavericks in round one with a 6-over, 78 and is currently in a tie for seventh place on the leaderboard. O'Dell had three birdies, which all came on the front nine, paired with nine bogies in her round.
Myranda Kotlowski was the next lowest score at 8-over, 80 and is in a tie for 13
th place on the leaderboard.
Biola's Brady Turnquist leads the individual leaderboard with a 1-over, 73 in her opening round.
The Mavericks will compete in the second round beginning tomorrow morning.
