GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After scoring three goals over the past two matches which padded her lead as the RMAC's top goalscorer for 2023,
Sauvelyne Randel achieved a career first on Tuesday as she was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office.
Randel hit three goals, including two game-winners, as CMU beat a pair of in-region foes in Angelo State and West Texas A&M. The redshirt junior from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, scored both goals in a 2-0 win over ASU and then broke a 1-1 deadlock with a 71
st-minute strike to beat West Texas A&M 2-1.
Randel leads the RMAC with six goals, already equaling her 2022 total through five matches. Randel was a Second Team All-RMAC selection last season with six goals and two assists while playing behind All-American forward
Lila Dere, Division II's national leading scorer in 2022.
Since
becoming Sauvelyne and assuming the Mavs' center-forward mantle in 2023, Randel has found the net in every match so far during CMU's 5-0 start, which has catapulted the Mavericks to tied for fifth in the nation in the latest
United Soccer Coaches poll, the highest-ever in-season ranking in program history.

Randel tallied one goal in each of CMU's first three wins over Lubbock Christian, Cal State San Bernardino and Newman, the first two of which came from the penalty spot. Her two-goal game against Angelo State was the first multi-goal game of her career. Randel has taken 13 shots, nine of which were on goal.
Randel is the first outfield CMU women's soccer player to win an RMAC weekly award this season. Freshman goalkeeper
Keely Wieczorek was the two-time reigning RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week, but had her streak snapped by UCCS keeper Isabella Whitmore. Fort Lewis's Amber Otts was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
The No. 5 Mavericks open RMAC play this weekend against New Mexico Highlands on Friday and Adams State on Sunday. Both matches are on the road and can be watched live on the RMAC Network.
