Mavs place program-record three on CSC Academic All-America® team

Coffey, Jenrette make Maverick women's track & field history as first repeat and initial first team picks

AUSTIN, Texas— The Colorado Mesa University women's track and field team placed a program-record three of its standout members on the 2022-23 NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country teams selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Josie Coffey and Mica Jenrette were selected to the 15-person first team while Jordan Burnett was selected to the second team.  Coffey and Jenrette are repeat selections after they were both second team picks last year.  They are now first two Maverick women to ever earn the award twice and are also the first two Maverick women to ever earn first team honors.  Burnett and 2019-20 Third Team selection Sarah Cerrone are the only other CMU women to earn the prestigious accolades.

The trademarked Academic All-America® teams recognize the top student-athletes from around the country, based on a combination of academic and athletic honors, which are plentiful for the selected Mavericks, all of whom earned all-America honors for their track & field performances this year.

Coffey, a junior political science major with a 4.0 GPA, picked up her third overall career all-America honor last month with a 12th place finish in the women's high jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships after winning the RMAC title for the third time as well.  She also earned her sixth USTFCCCA All-Region honor in as many seasons and holds the CMU school- record in both the indoor (1.72 meters) and outdoor (1.81 meters) high jump.

Jenrette completed her bachelor's degree in sociology with a 3.88 GPA and began her graduate work in occupational therapy this spring.  The Los Lunas, New Mexico native has claimed six career all-America honor as the co-most decorated track & field athlete— male or female— in program history.  The multi-event standout has also won the last six combined RMAC titles in the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon.  She is a 9-time all-region and All-RMAC performer and holds the CMU record in five different events, including the indoor pentathlon (3,781) and outdoor heptathlon.  She set the heptathlon record during the 2023 outdoor season and won USTFCCCA All-America honors in both the pentathlon and the 4x400-meter relay during the indoor season.

Burnett, a sophomore exercise science major with a 4.0 GPA, earned her first two career all-America honors during the indoor season and was named as the RMAC Freshman of the Year as a redshirt freshman in indoor eligibility.  The Fairplay, Colorado native also won the RMAC indoor titles in both the 200 and 400 meters during the indoor campaign and went on to earn First Team All-RMAC honors in the 400 meters during an injury-plagued outdoor season.  She also picked up three USTFCCCA All-Region honors throughout the year and set the CMU indoor record in the 400 meters (55.45).

All three Mavericks had also been selected to the RMAC All-Academic First Team during both the indoor and outdoor seasons as well.

Nineteen of the 49 total selections to the Academic All-America® squad had a perfect 4.0 GPA, while the 15-person first team and the entire list both averaging a 3.91 mark.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
