Justin Thompson all set NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying marks while Korkeakoski and
Hayden Riley both recorded throwing wins in a solid day of competition for the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Friday at the Kit Mayer Classic.
The Maverick men won two of the three field events contested on the first day of the meet and had two second place finishes as well.
Virginia Tomon and
Mica Jenrette also placed fourth to lead the CMU women.
Korkeakoski, a Newberg, Oregon native, made his collegiate debut with a winning and NCAA provisional qualifying javelin throw of 60.27 meters (197 feet, 9 inches) as he moved into second place on the Mavs' all-time charts ahead of
Cameron Kalaf, who also set an NCAA qualifying mark of 60.16 meters (197-4) to take second after winning the event at last week's CSU Pueblo Open.
Meanwhile, Thompson set a long jump mark of 7.43 meters (24-4.5), just off his own school-record of 7.49 meters (24-7). Freshman
Kash Bradley also set a PR of 6.86 meters (22-6.25) to finish seventh and move into the No. 7 spot of program history.
Elsewhere, Riley claimed the men's shot put with a heave of 15.96 meters (52-4.5).
Tomon was fourth in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.49 meters (40-11.75) while Jenrette, who placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 11.11 meters (36-5.5), finished fourth in the javelin with a personal-record throw of 33.98 meters (111-6) to move up one rung to seventh in CMU history for the discipline.
Kierra Arceneaux led the Maverick women in the long jump, placing ninth with a leap of 5.47 meters (17-11.5).
The bulk of the meet, including all of the running events, will be contested Saturday.
