The weather could not have been better this past weekend as the Lady Mavs continued their strong spring 7s performance at home. Entering two squads to round out the tournament numbers, both teams went undefeated on the day. CMU hosted Utah State University, CU Boulder, Wyoming, and the University of Denver for a fun day of rugby. All members of the program were able to see time on the pitch in front of a large and rowdy home crowd. The warmer weather brought out the speed as nine different members touched down for at least a Try on the day.
 
CMU team 2 kicked off the day with their first match against Wyoming and were led by strong performances from veteran players Zelly Moore and Anna Toney. Both ladies would go on to have a great day with 5 trys a piece. Though they were playing out of position, they had a strong presence on the pitch. The speed of attack and field awareness were hard for teams to handle. This 32-0 match got the team off to a solid start and both teams kept rolling. All players that stepped onto the pitch carried on the same intensity. Several Mavs scored their first try of the spring season, and many had an opportunity to shine. 
 
The closest match of the day was a tough battle with CU Boulder. The ladies got into penalty trouble and made the road to victory a hard one as they had to come back from behind with no time left on the clock. Captain Ryleigh Blatnik rallied the troops, kept the ball in play and following a strong attack and nice ball movement, the Mavs barely snuck away with this win. Blatnik sealed the deal on the final kick of the game to give the Mavs the 1pt advantage.
 
The Mavs head to Golden on Saturday April 8^th for Colorado School of Mines 7s tournament. Action will start early - follow cmuwomensrugby on Instagram for the latest on schedule and score updates.
