Wouldn't be spring in Colorado without inclement and unpredictable weather controlling the day. The Lady Mavs rose to the challenge as travel and match schedules abruptly changed. It was an eventful start to the spring 7s season. Led by strong veteran performances from co-captains Emily Canvasser and Ryleigh Blatnik the team earned their first three victories of the season. 

The day started out with weather challenges affecting the playing location. After a delayed start, CMU took on the University of Wyoming. The Mavs started off strong with Emily Canvasser touching down for the first try of the season. Ryleigh Blatnik tacked on the conversion before it went back and forth for the remainder of the match. With strong runs and offloads by Salina Edwards and Nallely Robles - Emily Canvasser was able to take a hat trick and help edge CMU, 19-15 over WYO.

With the first match chaos behind them, CMU confidently stepped up to their first appearance against Boise State. Canvasser again started the scoring off with another conversion by Blatnik. After a solid defensive stand from Sarah Penick and Teja Smith, a super quick Penick decided to get in on the action and Blatnik herself touched down for an additional 10 pts. The lady Mavs were firing on all cylinders both offensively and defensively to bring this one home with a 24-5 victory.

The day rounded out with a competitive match against CU Boulder. The lineup was a different look than what the ladies had done in the previous two matches, but everyone rose to the occasion. Rookie Sydney Hews found the gap and with a hard line was able to break through to start the scoring off! This match was a wild one and after several tactical substitutions a few injury subs were needed and the finishing squad looked very different from the starting roster. Anna Toney was able to get it done on the last play of the day off of a Robles kick to give CMU the go-ahead score. Lady Mavs won this one at the buzzer 24-19.
 
The Mavs head home and will host Utah State, Wyoming, University of Denver and CU this Sunday April 2^nd at the CMU Rugby Pitch.
