MESA, Ariz.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team recorded their third straight 5-0 sweep of the weekend without dropping a set in a comfortable win over the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers on Sunday morning here at Bell Bank Park.
The Mavs, now 4-3 on the season won all 14 sets in both the team-scoring and exhibition matches and did not concede more than 15 points in any of them.
The NAIA's Buccaneers fell to 3-5.
CMU had defeated Wayne State College and South Mountain Community College on Saturday.
The Mavs' No. 1 duo of
Holly Schmidt and
Macie Lachemann were 21-14, 21-13 winners over Annika Wallace and Megan Hicks.
Jada Hall and
Gracyn Spresser were moved up to Court 2 for the first time this season and responded with a 21-15, 21-10 win over Georgia Romine-Black and Grace Baker. Both of those Maverick pairs have now won four straight matches.
Meanwhile,
Hahni Johnson and
Savannah Spitzer were dominant 21-8, 21-12 winners on Court 3 while
Tye Wedhorn and
Sabrina VanDeList won for the sixth time this season on Court 4, taking down Jasmine Urban and Brittlee Harper, 21-9, 21-13.
Sydney Leffler and
Hailey Peters were also in the lineup for the second time this season and claimed a 21-13, 21-12 win on Court 5.
Meanwhile,
Taylor Scherff and
Savannah Ott claimed a 21-6, 21-10 exhibition win.
Rianne Brown and
Izzy Burns were also 21-9, 21-10 exhibition match winners over Daniella Miranda-Johnson and DeLaney Polling.
The Mavericks will return to action on Thursday when they host Trinidad State Junior College in a doubleheader at the CMU Beach Courts.
