GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After a 2-1 road trip to North Carolina, Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse swept the RMAC weekly awards as
Jed Brummett and
Dylan Checketts were honored by the conference as the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Checketts made sure CMU got the ball, collecting 19 ground balls in three games and leading the team in all three while also winning 42 of 64 face-offs. Once the Mavs got the ball, Brummett made sure to put it in the net, scoring 14 goals this week including a career-high six against Lees-McRae.
Brummett's six goals are tied for the third-most in one game in program history. Brummett now has 17 goals in the season's opening four games, which not only leads the RMAC but is more than double the amount of second place, which is Westminster's Merritt McMahon with eight.
Brummett's 17 goals and 4.25 goals per game currently rank ninth in all of Division II. He has recorded a hat trick or better in all four of CMU's games so far this year. Brummett also only needed 23 total shots and 18 shots on goal to score his 14 goals this week. On the season, Brummett is putting 59 percent of his attempts on target and 79 percent of his shots on goal have gone in the net.
Checketts collected 6.3 ground balls per game this week, scooping seven against both Lees-McRae and Belmont Abbey and five against Mount Olive. He won more than 50 percent of his faceoffs in all three matches, including a dominant 16-3 record against Lees McRae.
This is the second consecutive week that CMU has swept the RMAC's weekly awards as
Drew Eickelman and
Calvin Doucette took the honors last week. The Mavs play next on Friday against Rockhurst, then will stay at Rockhurst's field to play Quincy on Saturday.
