GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University women's basketball student-athletes
Kylie Kravig and
Leah Redding were both recognized by the College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA) on the organization's NCAA Division II Academic All-District Team, announced this week.
To be eligible for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must have a 3.5 or higher GPA, up from the previous 3.3 requirement in previous years, be a starter or important reserve and have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games. Student-athletes must also be at least a sophomore and have completed at least one calendar year at the nominating institutions unless they are a graduate transfer who completed at undergraduate degree at their previous institution.
For basketball, schools were also limited to four total nominations, who all automatically earned the academic all-district honor, a change from previous years when all-district selections were selected by geographic regions, with only those picked moving on to the national ballot.
Kelsey Siemons was named for the second time last year before her 2022 graduation.
The Maverick men's team also had four selections this year in Trevor Baskin, Isaac Jessup, Reece Johnson and Michael McCurry.
Kravig had earlier been named to the First Team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Team while Reading was an honor roll pick.
Kravig, a sophomore from Greeley, Colorado, sports a perfect 4.000 GPA and is majoring in exercise science. The University High School product has been the Mavs' starting point guard in all 26 games this season and is averaging 8.4 points and 4.9 assists per game. She leads the RMAC in assists per game (5.1) during conference play and is second in the conference for the overall statistics.
She also ranks fifth in the RMAC during conference play for assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) and has a 1.3 figure in all games, seventh best in the conference. She also leads the Mavericks with 26 steals and is third in the RMAC for minutes played, averaging 34.8 per night.
Redding has a 3.632 GPA and is majoring in sport management. The sophomore out of Grand Junction Central High School, is a regular reserve for the Mavs, having played in 19 games this season. She has contributed 26 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists and three steals throughout the season.
The Mavs enter the final week of the regular season, riding a 5-game winning streak to move into sole possession of seventh place in the RMAC standings with an 11-9 conference record. They will play what will likely be their final home game on Wednesday night against Westminster, fifth in the conference standings at 13-7 at 5:30 p.m. in Brownson Arena.
