Thursday vs GCU (win 10-4)
The Colorado Mesa hockey team played their second set of home games this season at River City Sportplex against Grand Canyon University (GCU)

The Mavericks took on GCU Thursday to start their three game homestand and set the tone early for the weekend. Senior
Shjon Kern would put one on net three minutes into the game and would be deflected by Senior
Bryson Sutterby to put the Mavericks up 1-0. Defenseman
Seth Kern would keep the momentum rolling with a coast to coast goal to bring the lead to 2-0. GCU would net two more to round out the 1st period.

The Mavericks would let it remain tied for long as
Bryson Sutterby would find the back of the net for a second time. The second period would see a total of four goals be scored, two of which would be the career firsts of
Everest Samter and
Ethan Levesque.
Larry Simons would end the period with a power play goal, bringing the score to 6-3.

The Mavericks would win the game 10-4 after third period goals from
Kevin Miller,
Eli Wilson, and
Collin Fitzgerald.

Friday vs NAU (win 6-3)
Friday would see The Mavericks going up against NAU in the first of their two game series.

Seth Kern would keep his hot weekend going with the first goal of the game, after going up 1-0 the Mavericks would shortly be down 1-2, but a goal from defenseman Joey Voyles would even the game up going into the intermission.

The second period would start with a Mavericks goal from freshman
Ethan Levesque but NAU would strike back 37 seconds later to tie the game at 3-3. CMU answered with a goal from
Collin Fitzgerald and never looked back, netting three more to take the first NAU matchup 6-3.

Saturday vs NAU (win 6-0)
The 7th Annual Pink the Rink charity game was hosted by CMU against the NAU Ice jacks at River City Sportplex.

This is a rematch of last year's Pink the Rink game, which saw NAU play spoilers, beating CMU 5-3 in last year's matchup. This year's game wouldn't be the same.

Senior
Collin Fitzgerald started the game with a rifle from the point that found the back of the net for a 1-0 CMU lead heading into the 1st intermission. The Mavericks would also keep the Ice jacks to only five shots to the Mavericks 10 in the first period.

The second period would see much of the same domination from the Mavericks and quickly as freshman
Ryan Koch would net his 2nd of the season just 12 seconds into the period.
Collin Fitzgerald again would find himself on the scoresheet, with his team leading 7th goal on the season. The second period would end on a shorthanded goal by
Mason Ripley marking his first goal on the 2023-24 campaign.

In the third the Mavericks would kill off all six penalties against them. On one of their few power plays in the game,
Mason Ripley would again score, for his second of the night and the season. The exclamation point of the night came on a 4-on-4 that saw defenseman
Seth Kern set up
Bryson Sutterby for the 6th CMU goal of the game and would be the final goal of the 6-0 Maverick win.

Goaltender
Chris McElroy would cap off his weekend with an impressive 31 save shutout, he would stop 57 of the 61(.934) shots he faced in both Thursday's and Saturday's game.

The Mavericks will reveal the total amount of money raised at their next home game, January 26th, 2024 versus the Western Colorado Mountaineers.
