PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team completed their first round of the Samuel Proal Invitational on Monday (Oct. 9) afternoon at Pueblo Country Club. The tournament features 13 schools from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and around the region.
 
The Mavericks are in a tie for eighth place on the team leaderboard after firing a 47-over, 328 in the first round. They are tied with conference foe Colorado Christian and lead Lubbock Christian (+48) and Fort Lewis (+49) while trailing Chadron State (+40) and MSU Denver (+37).
 
Lone Star Conference member Texas A&M-International leads the tournament at 14-over, 302.
 
Cassidy Phelan is leading the Mavericks so far with a 6-over, 78 in her first round to sit in a tie for 12^th place on the individual leaderboard. The Henderson, Nev. native had two birdies on her card which came on her second hole of the day, the par-5, No. 12 hole and the par-4, No. 3 hole after starting on No. 11.
 
Myranda Kotlowski finished at 10-over, 82 in her first round and is in a tie for 26^th on the leaderboard. Kotlowski had a birdie, two on the par-3 No. 6 in the round.
 
South Dakota Mines' Rianna Garland leads the medalist hunt with an even par in her opening round.
 
The second and final round is set to begin tomorrow morning.
