PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado Mesa improved its team score by three strokes from yesterday's first round to finish in 11
th place at the Sam Proal Insurance Invitational. The Mavericks shot a team score of 332 after recording a 335 as a team in round one. The Mavs shot 44-over-par on the day and finished at 91-over 667 for the two-day tournament.
Colorado Mesa finished two strokes behind a pair of RMAC schools, Fort Lewis and Colorado Christian, who tied for ninth at 89-over 665. The Mavs had a healthy lead over 12
th-place Black Hills State, who was 52 strokes behind CMU. Texas A&M International won the tournament at 34-over 610.
Individually, junior
Cassidy Phelan led the Mavericks with a 5-over-par 77 to finish with an 11-over-par score of 155, tying for 12
th among the 83-golfer field. It was Phelan's second straight day capturing the best CMU individual score.
Junior
Brittlynn O'Dell improved four strokes to 9-over-par 81 to finish tied for 36
th at 22-over. Senior
Myranda Kotlowski was two strokes behind at 24-over-par 168, finishing tied for 40
th after shooting 86 in the second round.
Redshirt junior
Sadie Kelley and sophomore
Payton Panzeri, who was competing as an individual, each finished at 34-over-par 178.
Crystle Querol carded a two-day score of 191 to round out the Maverick participants.
Women's golf will be in action next Monday and Tuesday in the Nick Turner Invitational, hosted by Fort Lewis at Arroyo Del Oso Golf Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
