LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 3 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling competed in the first day of the NWCA National Duals on Friday (Jan. 6) morning at the Kentucky Convention Center. The Mavericks picked up a pair of ranked wins and extended their dual winning streak to 20 after taking down No. 9 Lindenwood and No. 7 Presbyterian to open the dual tournament.
#3 Colorado Mesa 30, #9 Lindenwood 16
Colorado Mesa opened the NWCA National Duals by winning six of the 10 bouts on their way to a 30-16 win over No. 9 ranked Lindenwood.
The Mavericks won the first three bouts of the dual with
Jennesis Martinez earning a forfeit at 101 followed by a pin by
Isabella Morales over McKenzie Gilbreath that cam elate in the second period.
Carissa Epling capped the run with a win via forfeit at 116 pounds.
After the Lions won matches at 123 and 130 pounds,
Holly Beaudoin put a stop to the run with a pin of No. 8 ranked 143-pound wrestler Kelly Escamilla at 136 pounds in 4:52. Beuadoin led comfortably before she earned the fall.
Dalia Garibay (155) and
Jayleen Sekona (191) each secured wins to finish off the dual and the Lions.

The Mavericks were locked into another closely contested battle in the quarterfinals, but they benefitted from two forfeits and picked up a pair of big wins en route to a 29-14 win over NCAA Division I Presbyterian College in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Jennesis Martinez started the dual off with a big win as she defeated No. 5 ranked Samantha Miller 4-0 to give the Mavericks an early 3-0 advantage.
Isabella Morales followed that up with a 7-5 decision victory at 109 pounds before Presbyterian went on a mini-two match winning streak at 116 and 123 pounds.
Hailey Chapman and
Holly Beaudoin both came away with big wins as Chapman earned a 10-0 technical fall over Olivia Miller at 130 pounds and Beaudoin earned a first period pin of Sierra Miller at 136 pounds.
Dalia Garibay earned the Mavericks final contested win at 155 pounds as she defeated Isabella Badon by technical fall.
Melena Jones and
Jayleen Sekona each earned forfeit victories to close out the dual.
