The No. 3 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team will continue with duals on the road this weekend. They will travel to Chadron, Neb. with the men's team to compete against the Eagles on Thursday at 5:30pm.
Â
START A NEW ONE
The Mavericks had their dual win streak snapped at 20 during the NWCA National Duals two weeks ago with losses to No. 2 North Central and No. 4 McKendree. The Mavericks have one dual left on the schedule when they travel to Chadron State this Thursday
Â
Colorado Mesa is 2-0 all-time against Chadron State including one win last season and a win at the beginning of this season.
Â
THE UNDEFEATED
Unlike most teams, the Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team has not one but two undefeated wrestlers this late in the season.
Â
Redshirt junior
Marissa Gallegos, ranked No. 1 at 123 pounds, is 16-0 and has won her last six straight by technical fall. She won the York Open last weekend by winning all three of her bouts including a pair of wins over top-ten opponents from the NAIA ranks.
Â
The other undefeated wrestler is
Holly Beaudoin at 136 pounds. The redshirt sophomore from Poulsbo, Wash. is 11-0 and has won her last three matches by fall with all coming at the NWCA National Duals.
Â
SCOUTING THE FIELD
Chadron State is in just their second season as a full-fledged program and are starting to experience a decent amount of success. They are 6-1 in duals this year with their lone loss coming to Colorado Mesa in the first dual of the season. Their biggest win of the season came in Minot, N.D. when they defeated NAIA No. 14 Jamestown 30-17.
Â
155-pounder Marissa Porsch has 21 wins on the year against only three losses. One of her three losses on the season came at the Maverick Open to fellow freshman
Aynslee Hester.
Â
Teammate Josephine Wearmouth is also having an outstanding season as she is 15-7 with three of her seven losses coming to Maverick wrestlers.
Â
ON THE HORIZON
Colorado Mesa will head to the Grand View Open on Saturday February 4 for their last competition before the postseason begins. The Mavericks are set to host the NCWWC Region 5 Tournament in Brownson Arena on Sunday February 19.
