Mavericks Defeat New Mexico State in Home Opener

The Lady Mavs started their 2022 home winning streak off in a big way today against visiting New Mexico State University. Eight Lady Mavs touched down for a try in the 95-5 victory. Again, the young talent shown bright as Rookies Reese Barber (4), Ellen Rickerd (3), Ashlyn Erekson (2), and Ameri Chavez (1) accounted for 10 of the team trys. Team co-captains Nallely Robles and Emily Canvasser (2) added a few more. Seasoned veterans Ryleigh Blatnik and Sarah Penick each tacked on another to round out the try frenzy. Blatnik went 7 for 9 on conversions and Courtney Hull converted three more kicks. Led by tough tackling, solid rucking and intentional offloads, the offense was firing on all cylinders.

The ladies are in action Sunday Sept. 25th in Boulder against the University of Colorado. You can next catch them at the CMU Rugby pitch on Oct. 2nd in what will be a great DII rivalry match against longtime foe Colorado School of Mines.
