Mikayla Eccher and
Haley Klasner both scored go ahead-goals but saw the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals answer back each time to forge a 2-2 tie in NCAA Division II South Central Regional women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon here at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
The goals were the first of the year for Eccher and Klasner as the Mavericks wrapped up the non-conference portion of their season with their first tie and a 2-3-1 overall record.
The Lady Chaps remained unbeaten and are now 3-0-3 on the season.
Overtime is not played in NCAA regular season matches this year after a summer rule change.
CMU had a wide 29-14 advantage in total shots and a 15-7 edge in shots on goal. The Mavericks' total was the most LCU has surrendered since 2014.
Eccher's goal came early, just over four minutes in off an assist from
Mira Houck and was fired in from the top of the penalty area.
The Mavs then played with the lead for the rest of the first half and until nearly the hour mark when Stephanie McClung equalized for LCU in the 60
th minute on a set piece. Graycen Rasmussen and Madison Mayben were credited with the assists.
The Mavericks would go ahead 2-1 less than 11 minutes later on Klasner's goal but held the lead for just 1:03 before LCU's Julie Shahi scored an unassisted game-tying goal with 18:38 left.
Maverick redshirt sophomore
Lila Dere failed to score for the first time this season but did assist on Klasner's goal to extend her point-scoring streak to games.
Maverick goalkeeper
Chloe Dody made five saves in net for the Mavericks and is now 2-2-1 on the season. Her counterpart Abby Kone made 13 stops as the first Lady Chap with a single-game double-figure total in more than four years.
Eccher was the most active Maverick with six total shots, five of which were on frame. Dere took five while Klasner and
Addie Randel attempted four apiece.
Shahi took five shots for LCU.
The Mavericks will open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next Sunday (Sept. 18) at 11 a.m. facing Black Hills State in Spearfish, South Dakota.
