NEW ORLEANS— A program-record 18 student-athletes and both of the Colorado Mesa University track and field programs were recognized for their academic successes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, which announced its 2022 Academic Awards on Wednesday.
The Maverick men and women both named as NCAA Division II All-Academic Teams and have now each been recognized in each of the last five years under Head Coach
Brad Gamble.
Additionally, the Mavericks had 12 women and six men receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete status.
To be eligible for the individual honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and have achieved a provisional qualifying mark during either the indoor or outdoor seasons.
The team award requires a squad to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher through the 2022 spring semester. The Maverick women had a 3.449 mark while then men checked in with a 3.227 average.
The Mavericks' 18 individual honorees and their majors are listed below.
Notably,
Chian DeLoach has now earned the honor in four straight years becoming the first Maverick to ever do so.
Josie Coffey,
Haley Golden,
Kiana Jackson and
Mica Jenrette are all repeat honorees on the women's side.
Justin Thompson and
Tony Torres have now been on the men's list for each of the last three years, a new CMU men's record.
Nate Hanson is also a repeat selection,
