Women's Soccer Adds Three to Signing Class

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Head Women's Soccer Coach Megan Remec has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the upcoming 2022 season. The Mavericks bring in two transfers and freshman talent to help build on the successful 2021 season, which saw the team capture a Co-Regular Season Conference title.

Returning home is Evelyn Hammer who spent last season at the University of Bridgeport. The Littleton native logged minutes in all 19 games, leading the team's offense with six goals, chipping in two assists for 14 points. With four game winners to her credit, helping the Knights to an NCAA Appearance.

Coach Remec on Evelyn: "We are excited to welcome a player with great prior collegiate experience and intangible skills as Evelyn to the program. Evelyn understands the college game and has demonstrated an ability to affect her team's success. She reads the game well, and combined with smart movement on the field, puts herself in positions to be dangerous around goal."

Magnus Nilerud, former Univ. of Bridgeport Head Coach on Evelyn: "Evelyn is a dynamic and mobile player that can play multiple positions. Her versatility makes her a threat in the attacking third but can also play in a defensive role. More importantly her dedication and passion to whatever lay ahead of her make her a natural leader on and off the field"

Joining Hammer on the pitch is another transfer in Isabelle Sorge. Another addition to the front line, Sorge also returns to Colorado after playing for the University of South Dakota. Sorge played the last two seasons in a Coyotes jersey, playing in 30 games with over 600 minutes logged. In her debut she logged an assist in a 5-0 triumph over Kansas City.

Coach Remec on Isabelle: "We are looking forward to adding Isabelle to our roster this fall. Izzy has been a part of winning teams in the past and is a dynamic attacking player. Her ability to attack off the dribble and create with either foot will add a dangerous element to our attack. Her prior collegiate experience will be indispensable for our program as we continue to push to reach the next level."

Jim Davidson, Broomfield High School Soccer Coach on Isabelle: "Izzy Sorge is a bright, attacking-minded winger. She is very crafty in tight spaces and looks to get forward by beating players out wide. Izzy has a great sense of humor and is well-liked by her teammates."

Rounding out the recruits is Ella Harrison. Adding to the goalkeeper position, the Arvada native played her prep career under Larry Harding and the Demons of Golden High School. During the club season she competed with Real Edge Colorado Select, winning the 2022 State Cup.

Coach Remec on Ella: "We are excited that Ella has decided to become a Maverick this fall. Ella distributes well to restart attacks and her overall athleticism allows her to reach shots outside her body. She will help drive the competition of our goalkeeper group, and we're looking forward to adding her to our environment and program."

Ryan Henkel, Director of Real Colorado Edge SC on Ella: "We are very excited for Ella Harrison to commit to Colorado Mesa University.  Her quick reactions to make the most instinctive save, partnered with her ability to play with her feet as competently as an outfield player are an asset to any program.  Add in her fiery personality, which translates to competitive fire for her program, and we are excited to watch Ella thrive in the program that Megan and her staff have been building at Colorado Mesa."
