GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's team claimed their tenth win of the season in dominating fashion as they blanked visiting CSU Pueblo, 7-0 on Saturday morning here at the Elliott Tennis Center.
The victory was CMU's first in two tries at home and was the second 7-0 victory over the ThunderWolves in seven days. Saturday morning's win was even more dominant than six days ago in Pueblo as the Mavericks dropped just four total games in three doubles wins before giving up just nine total games in 12 sets of singles play.
The entire dual lasted just around 1 ½ hours.
The Mavericks have now defeated the ThunderWolves 37 straight times over the last 16 seasons, winning each of the last six by 7-0 margins.
The Mavericks (10-13) blanked the ThunderWolves (0-10) in seven of the singles sets as
Macy Richards and
Paige Furin both won their matches at No. 3 and 5, respectively, by 6-0, 6-0 margins.
Maike Waldburger also won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Kali Hamilton after having pulled out a victory in three sets six days earlier.
Meanwhile,
Halle Romero was a 6-0, 6-2 winner of Katherine Ambrose at No. 2 while
Lauren Thomas won by the same margin over Malaya Pendon in the sixth flight.
Julianna Campos also extended her singles winning streak to six with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Roma Cordova at No. 4 singles.
In doubles, Livingston and Richardson took down Hamilton and Tilly Blasdale, 6-1 in the top flight while Waldburger and Romero were 6-2 winners over Ambrose and Marissa Sena at No. 2 to complete the doubles sweep.
Minutes earlier, Campos and Furin had won by a 6-1 margin over Cordova and Bustamante in the No. 3 doubles affair. Campos has now won six straight doubles matches as well, including two this weekend with Furin.
The Mavericks, who have won three of their last four overall, will close out the regular season on Sunday morning facing Division III Colorado College at 10 a.m. The Mavs defeated the Tigers 8-1 last Saturday in Colorado Springs.
CMU will hold Senior Day festivities prior to warm-ups at 8:45 a.m. when they will honor Thomas and Waldburger as well as three CMU men's players in Christian Albrechtsen, Moises Cure and Steven Howe.
