Grand Junction, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team will head back on the road for the third straight game to take on Westminster Griffins 7 p.m. Wednesday (Apr. 6) at Dumke Field. The Mavericks will then turn back on their home turf at the Community Hospital Unity Field to continue RMAC play against CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves 5 p.m. Friday (Apr. 8).
A Look Back
Coming off a 1-1 record over the weekend for RMAC play against No.7 Regis and UCCS, the Mavericks (5-4 overall, 3-1 RMAC) are looking to continue with a winning streak. Coming off Sunday's win,
Taylor Jakeman's seven goal game is tied for second-most in team history, giving Jakeman 19 goals in the 2022 season.
A big threat for the Mavericks is
Kiley Davis – leading the team with 35 shots on goal which 22 have found the back of the net along with six assists.
Heading into this week, the Mavericks sit at second in the RMAC standings. They have totaled 100 goals and hold their opponents to 95 goals.
Since 2011, the Mavericks are 14-1 versus Westminster Griffins. The Mavericks are on a 13-game winning streak since beating the Griffins Feb. 14, 2015. The Mavericks and Griffins met up twice in the 2021 season with the Mavs coming out victorious in both.
Kiley Davis tallied four goals each in both games and is looking to add to her name.
The Mavericks have a perfect 11-0 record against CSU-Pueblo since competing in 2015. This is the first matchup Mavericks will have against the Griffins and Thunderwolves for the 2022 season.
Griffins Heading into Wednesday
The Griffins (1-6 overall, 1-3 RMAC) recently lost to UCCS 7-15 (Apr. 1) and Regis 4-17 (Apr. 3) and sit sixth in the RMAC standings.
The Griffins are led by Maddie Kelleher and Eden Freiberg with 12 goals apiece. Griffins are coming off a five-game losing streak and looking to break it Wednesday night.
Taking a total of 179 shots for the season, they are averaging 25.6 shots per game with .715 shots on goal percentage.
Thunderwolves Heading into Friday
The Thunderwolves are coming off a win in hopes to continue the momentum Friday evening against the Mavericks. In their last games, Pueblo lost to Fort Lewis 11-12 (Apr. 1) and defeated Adams State 25-1 (Apr. 3).
The Thunderwolves (1-7 overall, 1-3 RMAC) are fourth in the RMAC with goals – totaling 80 goals for the season currently. Ashley Hendricks and Ciara Lessick are leading the Thunderwolves as they combine for a total of 33 goals.
