GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Four Colorado Mesa University women's heptathletes will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday in Azusa, California as they bid to qualify for the NCAA Division II and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
The meet is hosted by Azusa Pacific University in Cougar Stadium.
2-time indoor pentathlon all-American and school-record holder
Mica Jenrette will compete in Section B of the event while
Jordan Brockman,
Hope Matteson and
Sophie Lindauer will all compete in Section C of the meet, named after the U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist and APU alum.
The athletes will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters on Wednesday and in the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters on Thursday.
Section C will begin at 8 a.m. PDT (9 a.m. Mountain) on Wednesday and at 8:30 a.m. PDT (9:30 a.m.) on Thursday.
Jenrette and her fellow Section B athletes are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. PDT (11:30 a.m. Mountain) on Wednesday. One of the section's two long jump flights will commence at 11 a.m. PDT (Noon Mountain) on Thursday while the other will start at 12:30 p.m. PDT (1:30 p.m. PDT).
All four of the Maverick heptathletes will be competing in the 7-event discipline for the first time this season but have contested many of the individual disciplines over the first two weeks of the outdoor season after competing in pentathlons during the indoor season.
Jenrette is the defending RMAC Champion in the heptathlon and set a school-record score of 4,901 points at the Mines Last Chance meet, narrowly missing out on a spot at the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. The redshirt sophomore from Los Lunas, New Mexico has finished sixth in the indoor pentathlon at each of the last two NCAA Division II Championships and won the RMC title in that discipline in both 2020 and 2021.
Brockman scored 3,729 points in her heptathlon debut last season to rank seventh in program history before taking tenth at the RMAC Championships with a score of 3,577 points. The redshirt sophomore from Flagstaff, Arizona, finished fourth in the pentathlon at the RMAC Indoor Championships in February to earn Second Team All-RMAC honors.
Matteson, a freshman from Reno, Nevada, will be making her heptathlon debut this week after joining Brockman as a Second Team All-RMAC performer in the indoor pentathlon. She scored 2,808 points to finish fifth in that event at the conference meet.
Lindauer, a sophomore from Longmont, Colorado, will also be making her heptathlon debut this week. Transitioning into a multi-event athlete this year, she scored in three events at the RMAC Indoor Championships but did not contest the pentathlon. She did score 2,612 points earlier in the indoor season at the Mountaineer Open & Multi and was an all-region performer in the high jump during the 2021 outdoor season and in the 4x400-meter relay during this year's indoor campaign.

A bulk of the Maverick squad will be competing at home this weekend when the Mavericks host a meet on Friday and Saturday.
