CMU women's lacrosse schedule altered as result of ASU program discontinuation

Mavs add Friday exhibition game to upcoming weekend plans

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— This week's schedule for the Colorado Mesa University women' lacrosse team has changed as the result of the discontinuation of the Adams State University program, announced by ASU and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon, with immediate effect.

The Mavericks were scheduled to play the Grizzlies on Saturday in Alamosa but have instead added an exhibition game at Colorado College in Colorado Springs on Friday at 1 p.m.

Before that, the Mavs will also still play their previously scheduled RMAC contest against Fort Lewis College on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Durango.

Saturday's scheduled game with Adams State will be officially be deemed a no-contest and will not be counted for CMU's overall won-loss record for historical and NCAA statistical purposes.  However, it will be counted as a 6-0 forfeit win in the RMAC standings per RMAC bylaws.  The rest of the RMAC teams will also receive similar forfeit wins.  Regis and UCCS will receive two such wins after their first scheduled games against ASU in the RMAC's double round-robin schedule format were announced to have been postponed last week.

"We are sorry to learn of Adams State's decision to discontinue their program, but we recognize their circumstance and appreciate their communication throughout the process," said RMAC Commissioner Chris Graham. "I am confident that our current six sponsoring institutions will continue to thrive and that opportunities may be available in the future to add more women's lacrosse programs to the RMAC," Graham added.

The four RMAC contests already completed by the Grizzlies will remain on record as scored.
