Tucson, Ariz. – Finishing the weekend with a split, Colorado Mesa (3-5) beach volleyball came out on top of a 3-2 decision over Santa Clara in the opening match of the day. The hosts, claimed the second match of the day 5-0.
Against the Broncos,
Tye Wedhorn and
Sabrina VanDeList picked up their first win of the weekend, claiming the Mavs first point at No. 5 to even it up at 1-1. The duo of
Ara Norwood and
Sierra Hunt would make it 2-1 in favor of CMU not to long after, with 21-17, 22-20 win at No. 4.
The threes would head to a third set, but the Broncos would steal away the Mavs clinching point. It came down to none other than the No. 2s of
Macie Lachemann and
Holly Schmidt. After battling in the second set, 21-19 they would officially clinch the dual for the Mavericks with a 15-13 set win, their sixth as a pair this season.
Against the hosts, and No. 13 ranked Univ. of Arizona Wildcats. The No. 3 pair of
Jessa Megenhardt and
Jada Hall forced a third set, against Jasmine Safar and Dana Parker.
Ashton Reese and
Sierra Hunt teamed up at the No. 4 flight, nearly forcing a third set after battling to 21-19 set two score.
Colorado Mesa will return home and host the CMU Tournament, welcoming PAC-12-member University of Utah, along with Trinidad State Junior College, and Salt Lake Community College Friday and Saturday, Mar. 11-12.
