CSU 7s Tournament Win

The CMU Lady Mavs are making quite the splash in their first ever official spring 7s rugby season. The team has been around for 14 years but has never competed in 7s, which is strange as they have seen much success in traditional rugby 15s. Over the years they have gone two for two winning the random 7s tournaments entered, but they have recently come full circle and proved to the Rocky Mountain Division I programs that they are a force to be reckoned with.

After coming off a tough fall 15s that was plagued with injury the Lady Mavs, now healthy, have been looking for redemption. They struck first March 27th when they took home the Championship at the CSU 7s Tournament. They won out after losing their first match by two points to the host team CSU. After some thoughtful and meaningful adjustments, they bounced back to beat Utah State University 21-10 and New Mexico State 26-14 in pool play. Wrapping up the comeback day with a win over CU Boulder 24-19 in the cross over match, in overtime, to take home the coveted first place spot for their first Division I tournament! Team Co-Captains led Liz Thoma and Emily Canvasser led the sneaky and quick attacks with reliable and sound tackles by Sarah Penick and conversion and ball movement by Ryleigh Blatnik, this young team looked promising! It was a strong performance from the young and learning Mav team! Up next, we host a friendly Round Robin April 3rd.
