Smith picks up RMAC Player of the Week award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's Ellie Smith was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

The award is her third RMAC Player of the Week honor over the last two seasons and comes after she hit two home runs, including a grand slam, while helping the Mavericks out-score visiting Fort Lewis College, 45-5 in a weekend sweep.  The Riverside, California native also had four total extra-bases hits and drove in ten runs during the 4-game series.

She had a 1.154 slugging percentage and .462 batting and on-base averages as she went 6-for-13.

She also had a double and a triple and scored four runs during the series, all while claiming two complete game victories in the circle as one of the Mavericks' pitchers.

As a team, the Mavericks have won 13 straight games and lead the RMAC with a perfect 10-0 record.  They are 16-4 overall and will take a reprieve from conference play hosting Northern State University in a Wednesday evening doubleheader at the CMU Softball Stadium.  First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

The Mavs then return to conference play this weekend with a Saturday and Sunday series at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado.
