Grand Junction, Colo. – It was another dominant day for the Colorado Mesa beach volleyball, claiming both their duals on day two of the CMU Tournament. With eight wins on the season, they set a new-program best.
The Mavs opened the day against the Trojans of Trinidad State JC, winning all three of the playable flights in straight sets.
Jessa Megenhardt and
Jada Hall played in the ones spot, taking a 21-10, 21-19 win to start the day.
Tye Wedhorn and
Sabrina VanDeList kept their opponents under 10 in both sets at the No. 3 flight. In the twos spot,
Ara Norwood and
Sierra Hunt cruised to a 21-9, 21-10 victory.
That shutout set up a rematch with the Utah Utes later on in the day, this time around making it a little bit closer of the match.
The Mavericks gained points at the No. 1, 2 and 5s to secure the dual, the Utes taking three-set decisions on courts three and four.
Macie Lachemann and
Holly Schmidt finished 3-0 on the weekend, not giving up a set moving to 9-2 together. They tie the single-season record for wins, Schmidt and Norwood tallying nine wins back in 2019.
Hahni Johnson and
Savannah Spitzer avenged their loss to the Utes from the day prior, grinding out a 21-19, 23-21 win over Bella Vezzani and Grace Andrews of Utah.
Wedhorn and VanDeList would clinch the dual for the Mavericks at the No. 5 spot, using 21-15, 21-14 sets, also finishing the weekend undefeated.
Colorado Mesa pairs fared well in exhibition sets, claiming five throughout the weekend.
With the next week off from competition, the will prepare to head west to California during Spring Break. There they will meet with Cal State Northridge for a double-header on March 23, before a pair of Division II contests against Concordia Irvine and Cal State LA on March 26.
