LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The No. 16 Colorado Mesa men's wrestling team won eight of the ten bouts on the evening to secure a 38-6 win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Thursday (Feb. 3) at the John A. Wilson Complex in RMAC dual action.
The Mavericks opened the night with a technical fall and two pins to jump out to a 17-0 lead. No. 5
Dawson Collins secured a 16-0 technical fall followed by a
Collin Metzgar pin at 133 pounds and an
Erik Contreras pin at 141 pounds.
New Mexico Highlands got on the board as Jonathon Trujillo scored a 7-4 decision victory over
Nick Gallegos at 149 pounds.
Ryan Wheeler secured a decision victory at 157 pounds with a 14-8 come-from-behind win followed by an
Alex Holguin pin in the first round at 165 pounds.
Seth Latham (174) and
Nolan Krone (184) had back-to-back decision victories to push the dual score to 32-3.
Donnie Negus scored the final win of the evening for Colorado Mesa as he earned a pin of Luke Allan at the 2:47 mark of the first period to make it 38-3.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow night as they travel north to Alamosa for a showdown with No. 14 Adams State at 6pm.
