Dynamic Duo Leads Mavericks Past Rangers

Turner reaches 1,000 point milestone in the win

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The dynamic duo of Mariah Martin and Daniella Turner led the Colorado Mesa women's basketball squad to a 75-61 win over Regis on the road in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown.

Senior Mariah Martin scored 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field with three three-point field goals. She added eight rebounds and eight assists. The 31 points is her second highest output of the season.

The Sandy, Utah native had 18 of those 31 points in the first half on 8-of-11 shooting and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Her running mate, Daniella Turner, finished with 24 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field and had a game-high nine rebounds. She scored 16 of her 24 points in the second half.

With 9:49 to play in the game, Turner scored on a layup that gave her 1,000 points in her career and put the Mavericks up 51-41. She became the 19th women's basketball player in the program's rich history to reach that milestone.

Grand Junction native Leah Redding gave the Mavericks solid minutes off the bench after an early game injury made the Mavericks play shorthanded the rest of the way. Redding finished with three points and two rebounds in a season-high 12 minutes.

The Mavericks shot 48.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. They limited the Rangers to just 35.4 percent from the field and an astounding 9.5 percent from three.

The Mavericks will continue their road trip with a matchup against Black Hills State on Monday at 4pm. This is a game that was rescheduled from January 8 and will be the second matchup between the teams this year. Colorado Mesa won the matchup in Grand Junction on December 10, 77-71 in overtime.
