Boulder, CO - Another early morning trek to the Front Range proved fruitful for the lady Mavs. Sunday's afternoon contest against Division I opponents CU Boulder started off on a good foot with an early breakthrough run and score by rookie wing Zelly Moore, giving the Mavericks an early 5-0 lead. CU answered back with a try, conversion, and penalty kick of their own to take a 10-5 lead at the end of the half. The short halftime was all CMU needed to regroup and relax. Zelly Moore scored first in the first 5 minutes of the second half with her second try of the game and got CMU rolling. With strong aggressive team attacks, respect, ball control, and well-placed kicks, the lady Mavs surged in the second half and won the match. Zelly Moore and Anna Toney each scored two tries as Co-Captain Liz Thoma rounded off the scoring opportunities for CMU. Scrumhalf Ryleigh Blatnik was able to add on 4 of the 5 conversions. Strong performances from Riley Siebels, Nallely Robles, and Emily Canvasser helped aid in the team's triumph.
The lady Mavs are looking to bounce back from several injuries this week to be prepared for next weekend's matchup. Come see the ladies in action for their home opener Sunday October 3 against Colorado College. This will be an early morning matchup with a 11am tentative match time, all updates will be reflected on the CMU website.
