Box Score DENVER— Moises Cure recorded four wins and advanced to the Back Draw finals in both his singles and doubles bracket to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team on Saturday and Sunday at the MSU Denver Fall Invitational, CMU's season-opening tournament.
In singles, Cure went 2-2 in the B Draw, bouncing back from an opening round loss with victories over Colorado College's Jack Delafield and Air Force's Brian Garcia in the back draw.
In doubles, the Colombian teamed with fellow redshirt junior
Christian Albrechtsen of Denmark for a 2-1 record. After losing their first match, Cure and Albrechtsen defeated MSU Denver's Andy Caruana and Carlos Pineda in the quarterfinal round of the back draw. They then knocked off the Roadrunner pair of Jean-Loup Auzias Dayton Fisher.
The back draw final against an Air Force duo was not played.
Elsewhere,
Steven Howe won a match in the A Singles Draw, going 1-2 in the tournament. Maverick newcomer
Jorge Abreu did the same in the B Draw while
Tegan Hartman and
Jandre van Wyk also went 1-1 in the C Draw.
Wayne Aggen also went 1-2 in the C Singles Draw.
Van Wyk and Hartman were also victorious together in an A Doubles Draw match.
The Mavericks will begin the team portion of the season this weekend facing off against Dallas Baptist and Texas-Permian Basin on Friday and Saturday, respectively in Pueblo.
