Mercedes Bohte (Lovato) had the interim tag removed from her title on Monday (June 14) morning. Bohte was the Mavs' interim head coach for the 2021 season and has been with the program for nine seasons.
She was named the interim head coach in March and guided the Mavericks to a 39-5 overall record while capturing both the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. She also led the team to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year and the 13
th time in program history.
Bohte was named the RMAC Coach of the Year prior to the conference tournament after leading the Mavericks to a 34-2 mark during the regular season as the Mavs won their fifth straight regular season crown.
Bohte coached a pair of D2CCA and NFCA All-Americans on the season in utility/pitcher
Ellie Smith and outfielder
Lauren Wedman. Smith, also named as the RMAC Player of the Year, led the country in doubles (22) and drove in 80 runs while batting .444. Wedman batted a program record .514 on the season, scored 65 runs and drove in 67.
As a team, the Mavericks led Division II in total runs scored (394) and had the nation's best win/loss percentage (.886).
