GOLDEN, Colo.— Brock Murphy set an improved NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying mark of 57.20 meters (187 feet, 8 inches) in the hammer throw as he led a group of three Colorado Mesa University throwers on Saturday at the Mines Mini Meet, which included competition in six field events for each gender. His throw was 1.10 meters (3-7) further than the mark of 56.10 meters (184-1) that he used to win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title last weekend in Pueblo and moved him up to 41st on the national performers list.
Meanwhile, freshman
Meleeah Holmes-McKown set a personal-best of 12.19 meters (40-0) in the women's shot put, improving to No. 2 in program history, the same spot that Murphy continues to hold in the hammer. Holmes-McKown also turned in a throw of 42.78 meters (140-4) in the hammer throw.
CMU's
Hayden Riley also competed in three events on the day winning the discus throw with a throw of 46.10 meters (151-3) while turning in marks of 15.73 meters (51-7.25) and 42.89 meters (140-8) in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively.
