Mavs to host RMAC Tournament on Friday, Saturday

CMU opens against Adams State

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— After securing their fourth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title in the last five opportunities this past Friday night, the Colorado Mesa University Maverick men's lacrosse team will play host to the conference tournament this coming Friday and Saturday (May 7-8) on Maverick Field, it was officially announced on Sunday evening by conference officials.
 
The top-seeded and nation's 18th-ranked Mavericks (8-1, 5-0 RMAC) will play fourth-seeded Adams State (0-8, 0-6 RMAC) for the third time this season in the first semifinal at 3 p.m. on Friday.  The second semifinal will No. 2 seed Westminster (5-5, 3-2 RMAC) against No. 3 seed CSU Pueblo (3-4, 2-2 RMAC) at 6 p.m.
 
Saturday's championship game between the two semifinal winners will be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Mavericks, who will host the RMAC Tournament for the fourth time, have lifted the cup in each of the three previous times they have hosted it (2016, 2017, 2018) and are 7-1 all-time in RMAC Tournament play.  Westminster won the 2019 RMAC Tournament in Salt Lake City, defeating the Mavericks, 9-8 in double overtime in the championship game.
 
A majority of the 2020 season and the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
CMU has won eight straight games since an overtime loss to Mount Olive in their season-opener and have won 15 of their last 16 games since the 2019 RMAC Tournament final.
 
The Mavericks are 23-0 all-time against Adams State since both programs started in 2011.  The Mavericks defeated the Grizzlies, 12-6 in Alamosa on Apr. 9 and then won 23-3 in their home opener on Apr. 25.
