COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released their all-conference teams and major award winners this afternoon (May 18). Colorado Mesa earned four of the major awards with student athletes picking up 17 different awards.
Head coach
Chris Hanks was named the RMAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Mavericks to their ninth straight conference regular season crown with a 37-3 overall record. During the season, 'Skip' earned his 900
th career win which is the top mark in the conference all-time and puts him among the top 20 in NCAA Division II. It is the 12
th time in his career Coach Hanks has been named the RMAC Coach of the Year.
Righthander
Andrew Morris was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Year after finishing the regular season with an 8-0 record that led the conference. Morris has a 2.10 ERA with 101 strikeouts and has held his opponents to a .215 batting average. The All-RMAC First Team recipient had six games where he reached double-digit strikeouts including a career-high 15 against MSU Denver on April 9.
Catcher and designated hitter
Haydn McGeary was named the RMAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in several major hitting categories. McGeary is currently leading the country in batting average at .500 and RBIs with 74. The All-RMAC First Team designated hitter ranks second nationally in doubles with 21 and 11
th in home runs with 17. He had five hits in a game twice and has recorded a hit in 33-of-38 games played this season.
Freshman
Kannon Handy was named the co-RMAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year after finishing the regular season with a 4-0 mark. Handy, named to the All-RMAC Second Team as a pitcher, has a 3.38 ERA with 60 strikeouts in just 42.2 innings pitched. He struck out a career-high 11 batters twice this season and held opponents to a .239 batting average.
Righthanded reliever
Anthony Durbano earned the nod as the All-RMAC First Team relief pitcher. Durbano is 4-1 with two saves and a 4.79 ERA this season after making a team leading 13 appearances. The Riverdale, Utah native had 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched and has limited opponents to a .296 batting average.
Junior backstop
Spencer Bramwell was named to the All-RMAC First Team and was a clear-cut choice for the conference's Gold Glove catcher. Bramwell is hitting .377 on the year with 11 doubles and nine home runs. The 2020 Academic All-American had two home runs and five RBIs in a win over New Mexico Highlands on April 23. Bramwell made just four errors on the season from catcher and third base while throwing out 10 would-be base stealers.
Junior first baseman
Jordan Stubbings was named to the First Team as an infielder. Stubbings is currently batting .370 with nine doubles, 11 home runs and 41 runs driven in on the season. The Parker, Colo. native had a two home run game earlier this season against Adams State and also earned the nod as the Gold Glove first baseman for the conference after not surrendering an error in 221 chances.
Colorado Mesa landed their starting outfield on the All-RMAC team.
Junior outfielder
Matthew Turner was named to the All-RMAC First Team after leading not only the RMAC but the nation in home runs with 21 jacks on the season. Turner is batting .396 with 50 RBIs and 55 runs scored on the season. The Broomfield, Colo. native had five games with two home runs this season and had a streak of five straight games with a home run.
Senior
Tyler Parker earned All-RMAC First Team honors after playing in 30 games for the Mavericks. Parker is batting .420 on the season with seven doubles and eight home runs. He was named the RMAC Player of the Week this past week after batting .750 (9-for-12) with a double and three home runs in the series.
Sophomore outfielder
Tanner Garner picked up All-RMAC First Team and Gold Glove honors. The Broomfield product is batting .330 on the season with six doubles, five home runs and a team-leading 10 stolen bases. Garner has yet to make an error in the outfield in 45 total chances.
Lefty
Ryan Day earned All-RMAC Second Team honors after going 7-0 with a 3.90 ERA. Day recorded 69 strikeouts in 55.1 innings pitched this year including a career-high 15 strikeouts against New Mexico Highlands on April 24.
Shortstop
Chase Hamilton was named to the All-RMAC Second Team despite missing a large portion of the season with an injury. Hamilton is batting .367 with eight doubles, two triples and two home runs.
Pitcher
Trevin Reynolds, second baseman
Harrison Rodgers, and outfielder
Conrad Villafuerte were all named to the honorable mention list.
Junior
Caleb Farmer was named the Gold Glove third baseman in the conference after leading the position in fielding average at .960. Farmer recorded just four errors at the hot corner in 99 chances.
