COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— For the second week in a row, Colorado Mesa University redshirt sophomore outfielder
Lauren Wedman has been named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Softball Player of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon and comes after Wedman continued her hot start to the season, going 7-for-13 (.538) with two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs to help lead the Mavericks to a 4-game series sweep over the Colorado School of Mines on Saturday and Sunday.
The Tucson, Arizona native also scored six runs, slugged at a 1.154 clip and had a .571 on-base percentage, good for a 1.714 OPS throughout the weekend.
Both of her home runs came in a come-from-behind 9-8 victory on Saturday. She went a combined 5-for-8 with eight RBIs in that day's doubleheader, recording four RBIs in each game. She also had two doubles in the first game of that doubleheader before coming up with a big 3-run hit in the series finale on Sunday.
Wedman now has an 18-game hitting streak and has reached safely in 24 consecutive games dating back to last season.
The Mavericks lead the RMAC with their perfect 8-0 overall and conference record. They will be on the road in Durango this weekend playing a 4-game series at Fort Lewis College (4-8, 4-4 RMAC) on Saturday and Sunday.
