MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – After posting their best start in program history, before having their season cut short, the Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse team is back in action for the 2021 season. They open with a three-game road swing, making their way across three states in four days.
RMAC PRESEASON COACHES POLL
Colorado Mesa picked up two first place-votes, eight total, making them one of the favorites in the this year's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll, released Wednesday by conference officials.
Westminster grabbed the same amount of first-place and total votes, to tie with the Mavericks as the top team. Each of the four head coaches, ranked their conference opponents 1-3, without voting for themselves. Adams State and CSU-Pueblo each garnered four votes, to tie for the third-place spot.
USILA POLL
Since garnering 100-points in the initial United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association coming in at No. 16, the Mavericks have since climbed up to No. 14.
Le Moyne continues to drive in a majority of the first-place votes, garnering 22-out-of-24 top votes. Tampa holds the other two votes, coming in at No. 2. Both team have yet to play a contest this season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
University of Mount Olive
The Mount Olive Trojans already have four games under their belt, and are 4-0 so far heading into Wednesday's contest. In the recent USILA poll they came in at No. 8.
Racking up 41-points in the four games played, their opponents have only netted 24. Freshman, Aidan Lalonde leads the Trojan attack with eight goals so far, including two games where he scored three goals.
Shorter University
After having their season opener cancelled, the Hawks sit at 2-3 on the young season, with their most recent loss coming to fellow RMAC member CSU Pueblo.
The two teams have met three times in the past, with CMU coming out victorious in all three of those contests.
They captured a 7-5 win over Lagrange College and then escaped with a 10-9 victory over Montreat College for their pair of triumphs so far.
Junior, Trey Edge is leading the offensive efforts with 11-goals so far this season. Against Mars Hill, the Rome, Georgia native compiled five goals and two assists, for seven points and a .563 shot on goal percentage.
Alabama Huntsville
The Chargers of Alabama Huntsville will welcome the Mavs to Charger Park on Saturday, March 13.
Sitting at 2-2 thus far, the Chargers have gone back and forth with opponents, most recently taking a 11-10 loss to RMAC member Westminster last weekend.
Junior, Brody Phillips has consistently started for the Chargers attack, recording a goal in each of the four games played. In the season opener, he recorded three goals and has eight thus far this season and also leads the team in assists with four.
