NEW ORLEANS— Ten Colorado Mesa University track and field athletes combined for a program-record setting 15 all-region honors, which were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week.
To earn all-region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals from their region in their respective individual event. In addition, each member of the region's top-3 relay teams was selected for the distinction.
The USTFCCCA uses the eight regions in NCAA Division II and the Mavericks, along with the rest of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the Lone Star Conference are part of the South Central Region.
The Maverick women had eight women receive a combined 13 honors, including
Sierra Arceneaux,
Josie Coffey,
Mica Jenrette, who along with the women's 4x400-meter relay team were the region's top performers in their respective events. All of those athletes also qualified for next week's NCAA Division II National Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Arceneaux led the Mavs with three all-region honors in the 60 and 200-meter dashes as well as in the 4x400-meter relay. She will run the 200 meters and on the relay next week and won the RMAC title with a region-leading converted time of 24.38 seconds on Sunday.
Coffey qualified for the national meet and won the RMAC title in the high jump after clearing a school-record 1.72 meters (5 feet, 7 ¾ inches) earlier this season to co-lead the region.
Jenrette will compete in the pentathlon next week after winning the RMAC title with a school-record score of 3,560 points, which with the conversions ranked her atop the region at 3,582 points.
The relay team, which also includes Jenrette,
McKenna Molder and
Jill Payne posted a school-record time of 3:52.62 to win the RMAC title. They lead the region with a converted time of 3:50.02.
Other all-region performers include
Shaya Chenoweth in the long jump,
Rachel Crutcher in the 60 meters,
Sophie Lindauer in the high jump. Molder and Payne also earned honors in the 400-meter individual event.
On the men's side, national qualifiers
Justin Thompson (high jump) and
Tony Torres (mile) were selected for the all-region honors.
