Regis, UCCS Up Next for Women's Soccer

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After enjoying the comforts of home for the past two games, and a good portion of the first half of season, the Colorado Mesa women's soccer team will embark on their first road trip. The Mavericks are set to play Regis on Thursday in Denver, and then will continue on and set their sights on spoiling top-ranked UCCS undefeated record.

LAST TIME OUT
After falling in an overtime heartbreaker, the Mavericks bounced back in a big way, enjoying a 3-0 victory over Black Hills State for their third win, all of which have been shutouts.
CMU took a total of 26 shots, 12 on frame, while the back lines kept the ball out of the Mavericks defensive half of the field and did not allow a single shot to be taken by the Yellowjackets.

Barely two minutes in, and the Mavericks had already given themselves a 1-0 lead. Lile Dere, with the help of Carli Dare were behind that first goal and was just a preview of what was to come for the rest of the game.
Just before the half drew to a close, Tallin Nieman snuck one into the goal amidst the chaos of an inbound corner kick, giving the Mavericks a 2-0 advantage at the half.
Dere would go on to score her second goal of the game, again within the first few minutes of the second half.

MAVERICK MENTALITY
With 120 shots taken, just over half of them have been targeted at the goal frame, taking an average of 10.67 shots on goal, second most in the conference.
In six games played, the Mavericks have reached double-digit goals with 12, to average two goals per game and is one of four teams to do so.

DARE TO STOP DERE
With her second two-goal performance against Black Hills, freshman Lila Dere took over as the top-scorer in the RMAC with five goals thus far. She has now scored in three consecutive games, and has scored a season-high two goals, twice. Her efforts over the weekend gave her the nod for RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, announced Wednesday (Mar. 31) and is the first of her career.

RANGER RECON
Voted to finish sixth in the RMAC preseason coaches poll, Regis enters the weekend with a 2-1-1 overall record, and are 0-1 in league play after a loss to UCCS. Their two wins came with multiple goals, besting Colorado Christian (4-0) and Black Hills (2-0).

Keegan Storlie is behind two goals for the Rangers for a team high, both of which came in the shutout of Colorado Christian. The team's other goals are distributed amongst five players, including Hanna Wallgren holds the team lead in assists (2).

Julia Coombs has done most of the goal guarding for the Rangers, allowing just two goals through. She's recorded 13 saves thus far, and has a .867 save percentage for a 1-1-1 record.
The Ranger squad is averaging around 12 shots per game, with more than half being targeted at the frame. When the two teams met in 2019, they both got off goals in the second half but would end in a draw. Kristen Capan was behind the Mavericks lone goal, with the assist from Ryanne Parker.

MATCHUP with the MOUNTAIN LIONS
Having yet to drop a match, and allowing just one goal through, the UCCS Mountain Lions moved up four spots to No. 7 in the recent United Soccer Coaches national rankings.

Western State is the only team to score against the Mountain Lions, and since then UCCS has not allowed a goal, completing three shutouts. Their most recent was a 1-0 defeat of Regis last Sunday at Mountain Lion Stadium.

Junior, Amelia Junge pilots the offensive efforts with two goals and three assists. Tarah Patterson and Tori Maydew also have multiple goals, contributing to the 11-1 edge they hold over
opponents.

Chloe DeShazer has started in goal, picking up four saves to keep her team in ahead.

REMEC ERA
Along with the season taking place in a different half of the year, the women's soccer team is also under new leadership with Megan Remec taking over the reins back in November.

Remec concluded her second stint with MSU Denver after being on staff from 2013 to 2016 and then rejoined the program beginning in 2019. She helped the Roadrunners to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the Region Finals in 2013. While at MSU Denver, Megan helped develop two all-Americans, 11 all-Region players, and both the RMAC Player of the Year and RMAC Freshman of the Year.

Remec picked up her first career win with a 2-0 decision over Western State on Mar. 13.
