ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team out-hit Black Hills State University by more than .300 points as they claimed a 3-set (25-16, 25-20, 25-15) Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod victory over the Yellowjackets on Friday afternoon here at Adams State University's Plachy Hall.
Maddi Foutz led all players with 12 kills while
Savannah Spitzer also figured in double-figures with 10 while hitting .600.
The Mavericks hit .362 as a team as they improved to 11-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play heading into an evening (5 p.m. match) against the host Grizzlies (2-11, 2-10 RMAC), who had claimed a 3-set win over the Yellowjackets earlier in the day.
BHSU was held to an .057 hitting percentage.

Ara Norwood had a fine afternoon with 18 assists, a .600 set percentage, six digs and an ace while freshman counterpart
Sabrina VanDeList had 14 assists and seven digs.
Haley Hahn and
Sierra Hunt also finished with six kills a piece to aid CMU's balanced attack. Hahn hit .667 and had two blocks and two aces. Right side hitters
Gabrielle Vogt (5) and
Maranda Theleus (4) also combined for nine kills and three blocks.
The Mavericks trailed 7-4 in the opening set but went on a 6-0 run to reverse the deficit into a 3-point lead. Hahn triggered the run with a kill while Foutz had three consecutive kills in at as well.
The Mavericks then used another 6-1 spurt to build a 16-10 lead and never looked back as Foutz finished the first set with seven kills on errorless .636 hitting.
The second set was also tight in the early going before the Mavericks used a 4-0 run featuring a Foutz kill and Hahn ace to build a 10-7 lead. They then gradually build that lead to as many as eight (21-13) while finishing off the frame on back-to-back hitting errors from the Yellowjackets, who had 24 in total.
In the third, the Mavericks scored the first six points and never looked back building an 11-2 lead while cruising to the victory.
