Women's Soccer Heads to New Mexico Highlands, Adams State

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Heading into the home stretch, the Colorado Mesa women's soccer team has just three games left in their regular seasons schedule, taking them New Mexico Highlands and Adams State this weekend.

Friday's game will be hosted at Old Memorial Middle School in Las Vegas, New Mexico will kickoff at 2 p.m. Sunday's game in Alamosa is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Weekend Rewind
The Mavericks celebrated two more shutout wins over the weekend, netting four against Colorado Christian and using a single-goal to get past MSU Denver.

Known to get ahead early, the Mavericks put through two goals having played just under two minutes into the weekend opener. Lila Dere rocketed the first one from outside the box, then Mikayla Eccher timed a cross pass in from Sophia Beames for the team's quick 2-0 lead.

The team was kept out of scoring position up until the 63rd-minute when Carli Dare found Dere in the midst of multiple Cougar defenders sending it into the bottom left pocket.

Adessa Correa added in the team's fourth and final goal in the 75th minute, running away with a pass down the middle and making good on the 1v1 opportunity.
The weekend sweep and fourth straight shutout was made complete on Sunday as the Mavericks secured the lone goal of the afternoon in the 22nd-minute.
Up against familiar faces, it seemed fitting the former Roadrunner turned Maverick, Mira Houck scored the game-winner.

The Roadrunners outshot the Mavs, 18-11 but only put four shots on target. After scoring in the 22nd-minute, the defense held strong and allowed for the one goal to stand for the remaining 68-minutes.

Certified Scorer
15 goals in 13 games, eclipsing 20 goals in barely a full season played. Not to mention her 22 career goals is tied for seventh in the CMU record books. She is first Maverick player to reach double-figure goals in a season, Daniela Ramirez was the last to do it in 2009.
Her name has been called multiple times throughout the season, helping put Colorado Mesa within the conversation is Grand Junction local, Lila Dere.

Dere claimed Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after producing six goals in a weekend against Colorado School of Mines and Regis. Her brace led the way in a 3-1 victory over the Orediggers, she then did one better than a hat trick, recording all four of the team's goals in a 4-1 triumph of the Rangers.

Her scoring success can be attributed to the amount of shots she takes. With 84 shots attempted she now holds the single season record, and averages 6.46 per game – also a program best. Her 16 shots taken against Colorado Christian shattered the single-game high, the previous being 11 held by three former Mavs.
Her now six game-winners is the second-best mark in the country, and she ranks sixth with an average of 1.15 goals per game. Her total points (34), points per game (2.62), and total goals (15) fall within the top-10 of their respective categories.

To Hot To Handle
The Mavs have combined for 238 shots, leading the conference with an average of 18.31 per game. 119 of those shots have landed between the pipes, which boast the top-spot in the league with an average of 9.15 SOG per game.

At an average of 2.46 goals per game, CMU boasts the third highest scoring offense and are outscoring opponents by a 1.61 margin. Ahead of them are UCCS and Regis, both of which the Mavs have claimed wins over and placed multiple goals past.

Just three of the Mavericks wins have not been decided by multiple goals, putting together 32 on the season to their opponents 11.

Holding Strong
It has been a true team effort on the pitch, while the Mavericks have seen a lot of success on the offense, the defense has put in work to keep opponents from getting in scoring position.

The defensive unit continues to limit opponents to no more than 9.8 shots per game, causing opponents to take shots from a distance, just 50 fired within goal frame.
2-way center midfielder Mira Houck has posed problems on both offense and defense this season, starting all 13-games thus far and logging 1133 minutes. She scored her first goal in a Maverick uniform in the conference opener against Black Hills State, and assisted on a goal in the 3-2 upset of UCCS, her then second-chance score against her former team gave way to the team's seventh straight win.

Despite missing one contest, Michaela Dangler does not skip a beat anchoring the back line. She has gone the distance in all 12 contests played, even getting up field to score and provide help.
Carli Dare holds down the outside wing, also providing help in the Mavs attacking third with a pair of assists to her credit.

Players of the Week
Dare and Dody took home Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference nods for Defensive and Goalkeeper Player of the Week announced Tuesday by league officials.

Dare was a two-way contributor for Colorado Mesa over the weekend, halting both of the Mavericks' opponents to a combined six shots on goal. Against Colorado Christian, she moved up the field to provide help on the Mavericks' third goal of the match, which ultimately ended in a 4-0 shutout for CMU.

Net minder Dody picked up six saves over the weekend, securing her third solo shutout and combined on another. Between Dare and the rest of the Mavericks back line and Dody in between the net, CMU has registered 406.19 minutes without conceding a goal.

Scouting New Mexico Highlands
Coming off a pair of losses last week, the Cowgirls are sitting at 1-10 overall, 1-8 in the league. Kiarra Hovis and Valeria Baca took away the possibility of a shutout at CSU Pueblo, Hovis with her first of the season and Baca with her fourth.

Baca and Nitza Rodriguez have each tallied four goals for the team's best, and Hovis leads in assists with two.

Karina Scott started both contests last week, ahead of Karina Vega who had previous minded the net. Vega is at a .551 save percentage and a 4.37 GAA.

Scouting the Grizzlies
The Adams State Grizzlies almost mirror the overall record of the Cowgirls, but have yet secure a conference win. They battled to a 0-0 draw against Fort Lewis, and then a 2-2 decision against Black Hills State.

Carena Harrison is responsible for a third of the team's goals, adding an assist to her season points. Ashley Beers has been the primary goalkeeper for the Grizzlies securing 75 saves, for a .669 save percentage and 2.57 GAA.

RMAC Preseason Poll
This season the Mavericks came in at No. 7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, moving up a spot from last season's poll, collecting 85 votes. Head Coach Megan Remec returns for the Fall season after leading the team to 5-4-1 record last season and a berth in the RMAC Tournament.

Colorado School of Mines garnered seven first-place votes to take home the top-spot, followed by UCCS and CSU Pueblo who each received three first-place votes.

Up Next
Following the weekend, the Mavericks will face one more road feat heading over to Dumke Field on the Westminster campus for the final regular season contest against the Griffins. Kickoff is scheduled for the 6 p.m.
