Lily Borgenheimer continued her record-setting form as she smashed her own Maverick mark in the 200-yard breaststroke while setting the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's top time of the season in both that and the 200-yard freestyle on Saturday morning. Winning both of those events, Borgenheimer and diver
Jolynn Harris, who claimed victory on the 3-meter board after a second place finish on the 1-meter, led the Mavericks to their 25
th consecutive RMAC women's swimming and diving dual meet victory over the Colorado School of Mines as part of second day action at the United States Air Force Academy's Cadet Natatorium.
The Mavericks who out-pointed Mines, 147-71 also had other RMAC-leading efforts in both relays and from
Grace Payton in the 400-yard individual medley while racking up 16 total top-5 finishes in the second quad-meet of the weekend, which also included NCAA Division I foes Northern Colorado and Air Force. Northern Colorado, which went 6-0 in the duals over the weekend, scored a 133-91 victory over the Mavericks while the host Falcons out-scored CMU, 123-101.
Borgenheimer, who set a pair of Maverick records on Friday afternoon, dominated the 200 breast, winning the event by more than nine seconds with her time of 2:15.07, which converts to 2:13.47 with the available 1.6-second altitude-adjustment. Her time bettered her 2-month old school record of 2:15.57 even without the altitude adjustment, and solidified her No. 2 national ranking.
Earlier, Borgenheimer won the 200 free in 1:56.21 (1:54.61-altitude adjusted) to move into the No. 1 spot in the RMAC this season and into the No. 10 position in CMU history for that event. Former RMAC leader
Maddie Pressler also turned in a season-best time of 1:56.59 (1:54.99-adjusted) while finishing second.
Kennedy Bright took fourth in 1:58.18 (1:56.58-adjusted) to move into the No. 7 spot on the RMAC performance list.
That 1-3-4 finish came just minutes after
Elsa Huebsch, Borgenheimer,
Noel Scott and
Logan Anderson had combined for an RMAC-pacing 400 yard medley relay time of 3:51.18, good for a third place finish in the opening event of the day.
After
Natalie Saul finished sixth in the 50 free to 24.92 seconds to lead the Mavericks in that discipline,
Isabelle Hansson took third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:12.54. She leads the RMAC in that event at 2:09.89.
Harris then finished second in the 1-meter diving competition as part of a 2-3-4 Maverick finish. Harris scored 239.00 points while
Ali Lange (238.40) and
Marissa Stahl (225.15) were just behind.
The RMAC-leading Pressler then finished seventh in the 100 free with a time of 54.22 seconds before Huebsch turned in a solid third place finish in the 200 back. The freshman touched in 2:06.26 (2:04.66) to move into the No. 2 spot in the RMAC this season and into tenth all-time in Maverick history. RMAC-leader
Sarah Fillerup finished fifth in 2:08.08.
Payton then turned in yet another RMAC-leading performance in the 400 IM as she finished in 4:43.91 (4:36.91-adjusted), good for third place. Bright finished fifth in 4:46.33 and now ranks fifth in the RMAC with the altitude-adjustment, which lowers her time to 4:39.33.
Harris then won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 239.35 points. Lange was fourth at 218.90.
After the diving break, Payton then led the Mavs in the 500 free with a seventh place finish in 5:26.07 while setting the stage for Borgenheimer's record-setting 200 breast swim in what was the final individual event of the morning.
Huebsch,
Anna Barjenbruch, Pressler and Anderson then combined to finish third in the 200 free relay with a RMAC-leading mark of 1:37.07 to cap the weekend.
